This video will be about installing the splash shield guard also known as the underbody engine cover. This has been done on a Chrysler 300 but it’s very similar to other Chrysler and Dodge, and Jeep vehicles… and the process is similiar to many other vehicles as well.
I’ll let you know what tools are absolutely necessary and what are optional. I’ll also leave all these tools in the description below. First you can do this without the use of either car ramps or a jack and jack stands.
However, I strongly recommend using car ramps if you have it. You’re just higher up. It’s easier. Again it’s not necessary, but it’s much helpful because you’ll have more space to work with.
Safety equipment you’ll need. Using a power drill is optional but it’s very good to use especially when removing the splash shield. In fact, i have a separate video that you can watch and probably should watch first to see how to remove it.
And i would suggest using the powerdrill because you’ll get it off faster. But when installing you’re really going to want a quarter inch ratchet with a either a seven millimeter socket or a nine by thirty two nut driver which would of course go on the power the power gun and this is also optional: the hex shank socket adapter that would go on here and then the socket would go on there as well, and the pry bar is more for just removing the actual clips.
So once you line up the splash shield you’ll put on these bolts. There’s ten of them and if you’re buying an aftermarket splash shield, they actually won’t have these pieces on there. So you’ll have to take them off your old one and put them on first and then when you put it on you’ll screw this in.
You’ll see momentarily. And then you’ll need about six to eight clips.

There are 10 of these clips for these screw bolts and then there are three on each side. Holes right here for the clips, so if you get a new splash guard you’re going to need to take these clips off because it doesn’t come with the new one. You can use a prying tool.
There it goes and I’ll put these brackets on the new one. To show what we’re working with here, you’re going to line up the hole with this and the clips go right here.
I’m underneath the car now and you can see this is where it’s gonna, the splash shield, is going to slide up on here. Right here there’s a hole there and the other side right here and I should also mention I have another video on if you ever need to change the low beam fog light.
If you take off the splash shield you can take it off here or you can take it off by the side of the wheel. I’ll leave that in the description as well.
Now I’m going to put the splash shield on. Slide the splash shield. Line it all up as much as you can for now. But once you push the splash shield in far enough to the point where it won’t fall out then scoot down.
Go ahead and line up these gray clips with the hole. Either grab your power drill and a 9 by 32 socket or a ratchet and a 7 millimeter socket. Again screw it in by hand at first.
You can actually tighten these from here. I’ll show you on the other side how it will look instead of underneath the car. You can actually tighten all the screws out here looking at the front of the car instead of underneath the car.
Your choice how you want to do it. Once all 10 bolts are on. Put your seven millimeter socket and quarter inch ratchet on and just make sure it’s tight.
Do that for the rest. So all these bolts are on. Okay now to put the three clips on here. You’ll just line it up and snap the clips in and on the other side.
Now i will say this is one bad thing about Chrysler’s splash guards. The fact that you have to put clips there and not bolts I believe this is one reason why if your splash guard breaks it’ll probably break off right here where these clips are.
So that’s kind of a design flaw in my opinion. I think it should have been bolts instead like the way these ones are secured. I think it should have been the same right here.
Put in the other three clips and then what I would suggest is grabbing the mud flap right here, fender flap. You’ll have to feel it.
Okay there’s a hole there and one right there. Now I will say because my splash shield broke at one point. I might have lost some of the clips. So I’m actually… don’t have any other clips at the moment, or at least I can’t find them right now. So what I’m doing instead is putting a spare bracket piece that I have on here to hold it in place.
You could do that too if you want or you could put some kind of clip right here. It’s just to secure this in the short term. In fact let me know if there if your car has any clips right here or if it’s using bolts because I’m not really sure.
